Funny Hoedown Moments

Well, the 2008 lineup for the WYCD Hoedown has been announced and I'm so pumped! Everything from Gretchen Wilson, Josh Gracin, Trisha Yearwood, Little Big Town, Jewel, Billy Currington, hot new acts like Lady Antebellum , Carter's Chord , Lee Brice, Jason Michael Carroll, Whiskey Falls, Jypsi and so many many more!!

22 national acts and dozens of hot local bands like REDHILL, Karen Newman, Forbes Bros, Danielle Car, Orbitsuns, Artie Dean Harris and many, many more (Click here for the full Hoedown Artist Line-up!)

This year we've listened to all of your input and put the stage back to the original configuration, done away with the Roadhouse and added a 3rd Performance stage which will have dancers and cool acoustic acts too, plus a dance floor!

Thanks to Chrysler Jeep Superstores, Bud Light, Greektown Casino and TCF Bank and of course WMG, DetroitCountryMusic.com and the City of Detroit for all the support, and most of all thanks to YOU, THE GREAT COUNTRY MUSIC FANS OF DETROIT for all the support!

I am very happy to hear that things are going back the way they used to be. You dont know how many people you made happy. I have heard on many occasions that people were not going to attend this year if it were the same as last year. Thanks alot. I can not wait till May! I have been attending the Hoedown 20 years. It actually has been a family tradition. keep up the good work!

Is Mr. Yearwood coming along too?
Any chance that Garth will decide to drop by with his wife and maybe sing a song or two?

Bums and drunks are my favorites
Bums fighting for pop bottles and drunks stumbling around are some of my favorite Hoedown memories. Let's hope Garth makes a surprise appearance!!!!

W4
When W4 had the Hoedown for the final time I wondered would it be banished forever when the format flipped and Country went away from WWWW-FM.

Thank you!
I am so so happy to hear the stages are back the way they were! This does mean you're putting the main stage back up top, right? Where everyone can see. Last year you couldnt even see the performers unless you were lucky enough to be in the pit. Had to watch them from the tv screens you had set up and still had a hard time hearing them. Ive been going to hoedown every year for quite some time as it is usually on my birthday weekend, and after last year, I almost called it quits. Dont get me wrong, the show is fabulous, but the crowds were almost unbearable which I believe had a lot to do with lack of seating area where the Roadhouse was. I was trapped in the vendor area for quite some time. Couldnt even move. By the time I got free, I was headed straight to the back by the river. Was the only place you could move without being trampled. But you could barely hear from back there. Once again, thank you, thank you, thank you! One other thing....autographs. I didnt really think it was fair that for some of the autograph sessions, you had to buy a cd to get the autograph. Should be first come, first serve whether you made a purchase or not. Thoguht that was the whole point of the hoedown....FREE. I stood in line for an hour and a half to get the Wreckers autograph before I was told I HAD to buy a cd. Needless to say, I couldnt afford to buy a cd due to the cost of me travelling to be at the hoedown and paying for my hotel. Some of us spend a lot of money just to come. I missed an hour and a half of the show onstage to be in that line. Then Joe Nichols... I stood in line forever and it was quite cold that day, and then come to find out, he went to a Tigers game? Hope the autographs go a little smoother this year too! Just so you know, Im not trying to sound like Im whining. All in all you guys are doing a great job! Just givin ya a little heads up as to what could be slightly improved. I know it's a big job to set all this up. But if someone doesnt say anything, how are you to know there's an issue? Thanx for taking the time to hear me out. Keep up the good work! Hotel is booked! See y'all there! YEEEEEEHAWWWW!

Indian Joe
we've been coming from lima oh. for over 20years and we always enjoyed the older man with long grey hair and bandana....he would have the most fun of anyone...he always stood facing the crowd and danced and waited for someone to wave at him...he would get so happy...he was harmless and maybe homeless...Iv'e missed seeing him the last couple years...we always called him Indian JOE ...may god bless him!!!
03/30/2008 12:10PM
coldest memory
Several years ago we huddled under a piece of plastic with coats and gloves in freezing rain to hear George Jones...we froze but it was worth it ...he was cold too ...he kept saying"bless your heart"...he did a great show ...i'd do it over to see himagain...

Glad to see you guys listen
So glad you guys listened to the masses and changed things back to the way they were. Last year was probably the least amount of fun I've had at the hoedown in many years. Rule of thumb......if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Thanks again, see ya in May.

RE hoedown
We hope that you tell people in advance that you won't let anyone in with there chairs or there own water or food. We drove for hours only to be turned away at the gate. Every day the rules were different. We have been going to the hoedown for 13 years and never had those problems. Can you let people know on the radio so we don't get turned away.

Seriously
The funniest/grossest thing I ever saw was some time int he early 90's two girls gotinto a shouting match. One of the girls went into a port-a-potty and the other girl and some big dudes that were with her tipped it over while she was in it. She reallyhad it coming! Hilarious. I love the Saturday evening crowd with the 5 feet of beer mugs hanging fromt he one they are drinking.Check out The Post bar after the last show-fun!
