Jyl's trip to Guatemala!
Guatemala turned out to be so much more wonderful that I ever imagined.  We fell in love with the people and their rich culture.  Everywhere you looked,  was an oil painting.  Such a colorful country with beautiful texture.   I have put a few pictures up to show you just a taste of what we experienced in 10 days.  From Lake Atitlan to the Mayan Ruins in the jungle of Tikal, and the colorful marketplace of Chichicastenango, and Flores, every city just a gem of beauty.  With the dollar still of great value in Central America,  it's a place you can go and not spend a lot of money.  These days, it seems we are taking all of our trips to Central and South America and discovering we absolutely love these countries.  A lot of Americans are in fact moving to the city of Antigua for early retirement.  Guatemala seems to be the next Costa Rica which is already quite populated with expats.  Have you ever considered living somewhere else?  I really never did until I started traveling to Central America and meeting so many Americans who have relocated due to a much cheaper way of life.  I'm sure I'll never leave Michigan, but it's always nice to dream.

If you did leave America, to start a new life, where have you ever thought of living? Love to hear!  Please tell me in the forum below!

Can I go with you?
Looks like you go to some beautiful and interesting places! Where do you find out how to get into the villages and avoid the tourist traps? Tell us more! Nanci

To avoid the tourist traps
we take a private tour. It's a bit more money, but the cost of living so low in Central America, we still come out ahead. We used Kon-Tiki Travels. They are planning are next 2 trips also. In 2009 we are going to Panama, and in July or August we hope to see Nicaragua. It's so less rush rush when you take a private tour. If we go to South India like we dream too, we will be with a tour because it's so much less expensive. But for Central and South American, Kon-tiki is a wonderful group of people and will plan a great trip for you. I only put up a few pictures, we took a lot more. Just to give you an idea of all their is to see in these countries. I just wish I could take each one of you with us when we go. Loveya always. Jyl

I'd love to visit Central
and South America. I'm starting my first real job out of college and when I get to take my vacation, I'm going to Costa Rica first, then Guatemala. I speak a little Spanish, so hopefully that will help. I love your pictures. I'm so excited to start traveling. Youre the best Jyl. Jena

Oh gosh Jyl I can't
wait to see the rest of your pictures. We just hung up and you told me you ziplined above the rainforest. My husband and I want to do that so badly. That is so funny that they had a real Jane in the trees up there in the clouds. haha! We are going to Costa Rica in June and can not wait. We love hearing about your travels. We don't have children either, so until we do, we are taking advantage of having some extra money. God bless Jyl. tori and Gerard

I met you at the airport!
My friend and I are still talking about how nice and fun you are. We love Central America, and as you know, are both going to be doctors, and plan on going back as much as possible to help people. The people are so nice and the countries are beautiful. Remember I showed you my painting I bought? My boyfriend ended up loving it, so the lady at the store was wrong. haha! I love the colors of Guatemala. Its such a colorful country and the people are too. Take Care Jyl. See ya again I hope. Lisa p.s. I've got my fiance listening to you now too!

leaving the US would
be hard, but honestly, my husband and I talk about it more than we ever have. our kids already speak Spanish and say they would love to finish school in Central America. My husband has been layed off for months, and my salary doesn't go very far. I would miss you at 99.5 so much if we left. If you could come with us, that would be perfect. We consider you all family. The Leonards in Monroe adios!!

awwww thank you so much
to you mr and mrs Leonard and Rita. No matter what, I always want us to be together too!! That is fantastic that your children speak Spanish and have the spirit of adventure to want to finish school in Central America. I have been blessed to be able to see so much of the world, but to have children would have definately been my first choice. I am still in the slow process of adopting a little baby girl from China, and my travel wings will be grounded. But who knows, maybe we can travel with her.....I just know it's going to be a whole new world. I love hearing from you always. Keep up the great sharing. Happy Spring! Happy Easter to you and yours from your long time friend Jyl Forsyth! xoxo's
