Peace Keepers Run 2008 / Memorial Day Remembrance
Host: City of River Rouge Police Auxiliary Date: Saturday, May 24th 2008 Time: Registration begins at 10:00 am
Run Starts at NOON Remembrance: 2:00pm at Memorial Park, W. Jefferson Avenue, River Rouge, MI Location: Ride leaving from Biker Bob's Harley Davidson
14100 Telegraph Rd Taylor, MI
The Peace Keepers Run will be a Police escorted ride through the Downriver area. The course will span over 30 miles of riding in beautiful surroundings. It will include a loop through Elizabeth Park (in Trenton) and end at Memorial Park in River Rouge. All paid riders and passengers will receive a Ride Pin and Food/Beverage (non-alcoholic) at Memorial Park. There will also be live music. The run will be lead by local celebrities and a suprise nationally recognized Motorcycle Builder (or two).
Once at Memorial Park all participants will be invited to join in on a Memorial Day Remembrance and Rally. We will have representatives of all 4 Branches of the US Military, Veterans Groups, Wreath Laying Ceremonies, Honor Guard, 21 Gun Salute, and more.
The run fills several needs.
1. It allows the River Rouge Police Auxiliary to build funds for needed supplies. The Police Auxiliary is a volunteer organization, within the River Rouge Police Dept. It's members volunteeer their time to help protect the citizen's and city of River Rouge. It is a selfless and sometimes thankless job and our Auxiliary Officers do it with pride.
2. It allows members of the motorcycling community, who otherwise would be unable, to have an alternative to the Run to the Wall in Washington DC. Whether it is because of work, family, or other obligations many cannot make the run and this gives them a chance to celebrate Memorial Day.
3. Our nation was built on the backs of our Service Men/Women. Many paid the ultimate price to ensure that this country continues to be the greatest in the world. We want to show our appreciation to them and their families. We would also like to show our support of our Service Men/Women who are serving at this time, as well. Regardless of any stance on the current conflicts abroad we want to show our service people that we do care and we will continue to support them.
All of the proceeds will go to benefit the River Rouge Police Auxiliary.
