LUKE SAYERS
|
Since leaving Tangerine Trousers in late 2004, Luke Sayers has been hard at work establishing himself throughout the country as a singer/songwriter. The former bassist, a songwriter, singer, and acoustic guitarist for the Trousers has twice been a featured songwriter at the Bluebird Café in Nashville, was the only Michigan artist selected to showcase at the 2006 International Folk Alliance Conference in Austin, took first place in the 2005 Great Lakes Songwriting Contest, and received Detroit Music Award nominations for Outstanding Folk Artist 2007, Outstanding Acoustic Artist 2006, and Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Songwriter 2005. Luke has reunited with his fellow former Tangerine Trousers band mate Mark Lannace. Their unique sound featuring “the duo's bang-up harmonies at times recalling Barenaked Ladies” (the Grand Rapids Press), nylon string acoustic guitar, and accordion have recently been complimented by the dynamic drumming of Ann Arbor’s Mike Gabelman.
Critics have said Luke is a “versatile young songwriter”, “possessed with soul”, and have described his songs as “just gorgeous”. Audience members have compared Luke’s voice to that of Martin Sexton and describe his guitar style as a cross between Willie Nelson and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Luke has shared the stage with Martin Sexton, Ani Difranco, Old Crow Medicine Show, Donna the Buffalo, Jackie Green, Railroad Earth, Brave Combo, The Clumsy Lovers, Ruthie Foster, and The Bluehouse.
Luke has become known for his passionate and uninhibited live performances. He has toured internationally, performing his original songs at venues and festivals such as The Bluebird Café in Nashville, The Ark and The Ann Arbor Folk Festival.
Luke’s music is a perfect fit for any stage whether it’s a house concert, a club, a concert hall, or a festival, and can be performed solo, as a duo, or as a full band.
