If Elvis, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams had recorded London Calling, we might not need TheOrbitsuns today. But here they are, Detroit’s version of blues, honkeytonk country and old time rock and roll, full of hellfire and brimstone.
Formed in 2000 after songwriter and vocalist Vinnie Dombrowski found himself with a collection of finger blisterin’ country songs, The Orbitsuns have been entertaining audiences throughout the U.S. With Detroit music scene veteran Tim Duvalier, that’s Sir Tim Duvalier to you, on guitar, lap steel and vocals; Jimmy Paluzzi on drums, and Bob Hecker on bass, the band has built quite a following. And if you think one rockin’ set after another is all these good ole boys are made for - check out their latest, self-produced release, Red Neck Disco, including audience pleasers “Haul Ass” and “Girls That Swear.” Thousands of Orbitsuns fans can’t be wrong. In addition to opening for national artists such as David Allen Coe, Blake Shelton, Sawyer Brown and Cheap Trick, the Orbitsuns hauled their high energy, rockabilly sound to Texas in 2002, where they performed at the Detroit Future Platinum showcase at the prestigious SxSW conference in Austin, TX.
As a band with varied talent, all members have enjoyed other successful turns –front man Vinnie Dombrowski is known by many as the lead singer of the platinum-selling rock group Sponge. For more than ten years, Sponge has rocked fans with sold out shows and MTV hits. A Motor City musical genius, Vinnie played with many other popular Detroit acts including the Bradford Youth Gang, the Sharecroppers of Soul and Loud House.
Sir Tim Duvalier was a member of the Chisel Brothers featuring Thornetta Davis, the Sharecroppersof Soul and most recently Chef Chris and his Nairobi Trio. In 2002, Duvalier helped the Nairobi Trio win the 18th annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis, naming them the best-unsigned blues band in the world.
Hard-hitting drummer Jimmy Paluzzi was part of the original Sponge lineup and played with Hoarse, recording an album for RCA. Currently, Jimmy also plays with Detroit based power-pop trio the Fags.
Bob Hecker on bass and vocals was a long time member of Randy Volin’s guitar trio Sonic Blues and also played in Larval, a hypnotic rock ensemble.
High-energy live shows and music full of humor and down home attitude, the Orbitsuns are not your typical Detroit ‘garage band’ y’all – they’re a rock and roll revival.
