Christy Howard is a Blues vocalist and songwriter based in Detroit, Michigan. Her voice is sultry and smooth, unlike the typical growling or raspy Blues singer. Her music is Chicago Style-Blues and Blues-Rock, sometimes with a distinct Country or Southern-Rock flavor. She typically fronts a 5-piece band and draws on her long career in the seedy music business for her lyrics, which deal with cheating, mistreating, gambling, drinking, and other debauchery familiar in the Blues.
Onstage, she's Memphis Minnie meets Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Nicks. Add the edginess of urban Chicago and Detroit Blues and Rock, to the laid-back feeling of rural Tennessee and Mississippi Country, Gospel and Bluegrass, and you have a woman poised to become the next female superstar of the modern Blues era. Christy Howard is southern attitude meets big city cool! Christy's songwriting partner is husband Jeffrey Howard, formerly lead guitarist for the late Butler Twins -- legends of the Detroit Blues scene. Christy and Jeff often perform together as an acoustic duo; they won the 2006 Detroit Blues Challenge and competed in the 2007 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. The Christy Howard Band was nominated for a 2008 Detroit Music Award for best Country band, and Christy Howard for best female Country songwriter. Christy and Jeff are currently recording a CD of original electric Blues-Rock and Chicago-Style Blues at No Cover Records. The CD will feature special guest appearances by Chicago bluesmen Jim Kahr and Steve Arvey, as well as Detroit's Harmonica Shaw.
