Introducing Detroit’s own Prairie Dolls, one of the most unique acts you will see anywhere in the great state of Michigan.
Terrie Lea, Maggie McCabe, and Janel deVries, have been performing in the same musical circles for several years, and have been great fans of one another. They finally decided to put their talents together to create The Prairie Dolls.
Each woman brings something unique to the group while keeping a blend of energy and grace that is sure to win the hearts of all who see them.
On vocals, Terrie Lea is a 14 time Detroit Music Award winner, including outstanding country vocalist in 2004, 2005, 2006, and received the honorary award in this category in 2007! Terrie began her love for music singing with her daddy at backyard barbeques, benefits and clubs at the age of 4.
Terrie lea has since worked in the studio with Loretta Lynn’s band, The Vandellas, and many others. She performed at the 19th & 22nd annual WYCD Hoedowns, appeared on WCXI radio with the legendary CMA award winning radio personality Deano Day, appeared on WJR radio with talk radio personality Mitch Albom, the radio Lia show, scoring a “Hit” on her hit or miss call in show, and sang at one of the Detroit areas premiere venues, Freedom Hill.
In 2004 Terrie appeared with Dreamworks artists Tracy Lawrence and Jimmy Wayne. In 2005 Terrie appeared with Gretchen Wilson and with Leann Rimes at the Clio Amphitheater. Terrie has also performed with The Detroit Women, who have been seen singing the National Anthem at Comerica Park and many other venues in and around the Detroit area. In 2006 Terrie snagged the staring roll of Krissi McGregor, a sassy southern gal who leaves a trail of men behind her, in the play “We Are Not Good Girls”.
She has recorded in Nashville with the legendary song writer/producer Charlie Craig, and has been asked to sing on several CD projects including the legendary Roy Young. Terrie has toured with Shawn Barker and is currently working with her band Terrie Lea & The Mustangs, Elstan Gunn’s Tribute to Johnny Cash, and The Prairie Dolls.
On Vocals, Fiddle, Mandolin and Guitar, Janel deVries ("Nellie") is an accomplished classical violinist who brings her "Mountain Music" passion to any group. For more than 20 years now, Janel has been the cornerstone of various country, Southern Gospel, and bluegrass groups, and is one of the Detroit area's most sought after musicians. Along with her exceptional fiddle and mandolin stylings, her vocal contributions and crisp harmony arrangements are the best in the state!
Janel has opened for Tracy Lawrence, Gretchen Wilson, Emerson Drive, Little Texas, Trace Adkins, and Dierks Bentley. She has performed at some of Detroit's premiere venues, including Freedom Hill and the beautiful Emerald Theatre. Janel has been nominated for several Detroit Music Awards over the years winning Outstanding Country Group of The Year in 2005! Janel is currently performing with Terrie Lea & the Mustangs,Elstan Gunn's Tribute to the late country Icon "Johnny Cash,"The Prairie Dolls, and her very busy wedding quartet – Go 4 Baroque.
On Vocals, Guitar, mandolin, Bodhran and Bass Maggie McCabe is an award-winning vocalist and musician with training in classical and gospel vocal styles. Her unique, direct style connects her with every audience. Performing on line-ups with the likes of Debbie Davies, Bobby Rush, Robert B. Jones, Maggie has been on the Detroit music scene for many years. Accomplished on guitar, mandolin and Bodhran (Irish drum) she continues to excel in her craft winning a finalist spot in the Detroit Blues Society Challenge in 2008. She and performs regularly at local and regional venues and festivals all over Michigan.
Awards – Many DMA Award Nominations – Won a DMA in 2008 Performers Awards of Detroit winner (Best Live Performance) and nominated for Female Entertainer of the Year.
