Jack Ingram voted one of "People" Mags Hottest Guys in Country Music!

Jack Ingram: One of People's Hottest Guys in Country Music

New York: With his “Barefoot and Crazy” hitting the Top 30 in 8- and 4-place leaps, Jack Ingram is making his kind of country connect with people across the nation. And that freewheeling, jettison the grind and take your moment of exhilaration hit embodies the rough-hewn Texan's ability to walk the line between standing tall and living in the moment - and that was exactly the reason People selected Ingram, who they tagged “the Marathon Man” for their just released Country Special cover package that captured the 12 Hottest Guys in Country Music.

“It's a little crazy,” admits Ingram. “I've been banging around the road, living like I've been living - and never really thought too much about it. I think for women who like those kind of guys, there's something to that… maybe… but you know, if you think too much about it, well, you're gonna get embarrassed rather than flattered - and I'd rather respect the people giving the compliment.”

Or as the man who hit #1 with “Wherever You Are” and won CMT's Wide Open Country Award for his “Love You” video, “Rugged, raw and real - that's how I see being a Texan. Headstrong into the wind, the one who holds out a hand and says, 'Hang onto this, we're going to make it.'”

Photographed by noted Los Angeles photographer Lance Staedler on location in Nashville, Ingram certainly kept up the pace: flying in on the morning of the shoot, doing an interview with CMT's Allison DeMarcus for “People Country on CMT” - which airs May 15 -- and making a late afternoon flight out to play a show after the Texas Rangers' baseball game.

“When the moment presents itself, you've got to make it happen,” Ingram says. “I've always believed that… and I am the kind of man who will always do anything in my power to. People reaching out like that, well, that's a big deal - no matter who you are - and I was honored to be asked.”

With USA Today naming “Barefoot and Crazy” its Pick of the Week - across all genres, the national daily newspaper declared the feel good sing is “shaping up to be one of summer's biggest singles” on Tuesday , it appears that the Houston-born slow burner is building on his own momentum. Having taken 15 years to climb onstage to win last year's Academy of Country Music Top New Male Vocalist, Ingram has time since doing tours with Sheryl Crow, Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride and Brad Paisley.

“They called me the Marathon Man,” Ingrams muses. “If they only knew… I really believe you believe in your dream, you stay after it and you never say never. If you just keep dreaming, just keep believing and keep on keeping on, I don't think there's another option. It may not be quite what you thought, but if you stay true, the dream will come.”

Currently in the studio putting finishing touches on his late August Big Dreams & High Hopes, Ingram just participated in a songwriters' roundtable with Guy Clark, Patty Griffin, Robert Earl Keen and Sonny Throckmorton for the August Texas Monthly and rocks pretty hard on CBS' “George Strait: Artist of the Decade” special, which airs May 27 - and is also featured in People's brand new special issue.
