CMT's "Can You Duet?"

Welcome to season 2 of CMT’s Can You Duet! Country’s version of American Idol!  Tune in Saturdays 8/7c. The producers of American Idol are teaming up with CMT to find the next great country music duo in the most original singing competition ever, Can You Duet. In the tradition of powerhouse duos such as Big & Rich, Kenny and Dolly, Johnny and June Carter Cash, Brooks & Dunn, and even Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus, Can You Duet is the ultimate singing competition looking to launch an unknown duo into country music superstardom

The next episodes will decide the winner along with the beginning of their career as a Big Machine recording artist!  American Idol producers are teaming up with CMT to find the next great country music duo in the most original singing competition ever, Can You Duet. Contestants compete as part of a duo, with different partners week after week as the competition progresses to the next round.

Recap of July 25th on Can You Duet - In one of the most anticipated evenings of the competition, CMT’s CAN YOU DUET contestants turned from singers to singer-songwriters in “Original Song Night.” Judge Scott Borchetta counseled the groups during the week on song arrangements, vocal styles, and stage presence. He noted that when signing acts to Big Machine Records it gets down to “originality, [something] unique, artists with a vision.” Ryan & Avalon, Steel Magnolia, JB Rocket, and The Stellas each played an original song, and CAN YOU DUET alumni Joey & Rory stopped by for a special performance of “Cheater, Cheater.” The high point of the evening was Steel Magnolia’s “The Edge of Goodbye,” which prompted Borchetta to proclaim “there are a lot of tough decisions to make tonight but this ain’t one of them!” Judge Big Kenny raved “it’s about time for the world to hear you!” and Judge Naomi Judd pegged Josh as a “bad boy” and Meg as “babealicious.” In the end, The Stellas were sent packing as Ryan & Avalon, Steel Magnolia, and JB Rocket advanced.

MEET THE JUDGES!

Naomi Judd
First known to the world as half of the famous mother/daughter duet, the Judds, Naomi Judd is an accomplished singer/songwriter, spokesperson, entrepreneur, author and television personality. After selling over 20 million albums, garnering numerous No. 1 singles, winning five GRAMMY® awards and a vast array of other honors, the Judds bid farewell in 1991, but Naomi did not step out of the public spotlight. Since that time, she has remained an important advocate for women's health issues and domestic violence, as well as an active spokesperson for anti-violence programs.

Big Kenny
William Kenneth Alphin
is an American country music singer, known professionally as Big Kenny. He is a member of the American country music duo Big & Rich, which also comprises John Rich. Together, Big & Rich have recorded three studio albums for Warner Bros. Records, and have charted several singles on the Hot Country Songs charts. Before forming Big & Rich, Alphin was the lead singer of a group luvjOi, which recorded two studio albums (Rich cowrote a few songs for these albums and sometimes joined the band as an unannounced "special guest" onstage). Alphin also recorded a solo album in 1999 titled Live a Little, although it was not released until 2005.

Scott Borchetta
A native Californian and accomplished musician, Borchetta's love for music began in early childhood when he developed an appreciation for the art by listening to as many styles of music as possible. That diverse influence afforded him the opportunity of playing a wide variety of instruments in various bands before moving to Nashville in 1981 and devoting himself full time to the industry side of the music business. After quickly climbing the corporate ladder, Borchetta became one of the top radio promotion go-to-guys over the last decade and now he sits at the helm of Big Machine Records and the newly formed Valory Music Co.
