MY PASSIONS
My lifelong passions are traveling and exploring different cultures, and helping animals of all kinds. Since I could never have children, I’ve sort of found animals to help fill that void, so I have worked closely with the with Michigan Humane Society for years. In the night-time we're still going strong helping a lot of the THE HOMELESS in our area find "forever homes". We feature one of God's little creatures every Monday right here on www.wycd.com and do our very best to find a great home for them. Jan Cantle (from the MHS) calls every Tuesday and will answer any questions you may have, as well as talk about our "Pet of the Week." If you are looking for a dog, cat, feret, or rabbit for your family, please be sure to check out our "Pet of the Week" or visit the Michigan Humane Society website. I recently started volunteering there a few days a week and presently I am a 'dog walker'. One day, I hope to have the opportunity to go to schools and teach children the importance of being a responsible animal person. Not just domestic animals, but wild as well.
MY TRAVELS
Some of the trips I’ve taken in the past years have been life changing. Most of my friends have children in college and haven’t started traveling yet. My life will be a bit different since I’ll be a mom the last half as opposed to the first half. Disneyland here we come!! In the meantime though, I’ll briefly share a few of the places I’ve been.
Please read this if you have a desire to travel. I know how to do it on a small budget and stay in nice places. You don't have to be rich to go to China or any place else in our world. I was so surprised to find out how reasonable traveling to exotic places can be. Be sure and email me or leave a comment on my blog if you want me to share some of these tips!
Bali and Thailand were amazing! I got to see the Monkey Sanctuary where they live in their natural environment. Some of the pictures I took in Ubud Bali are of these amazing monkeys living 100% in their natural environment. Never before had I seen such teeny babies! CLICK HERE to see for yourself.
Sedona, Arizona with my mom was a gorgeous trip!. Just so you know…..everywhere I’ve been I want to live. So I’m not going to keep repeating how much I loved each place. Michigan is home and always will be. I was raised in Pontiac and moved to Bloomfield in 5th grade. My parents are both from Pontiac Michigan. OK…..here we go……Italy with my grandma and mom. My Grandma Vackaro was born there and so was my Grandpa, so I had the great honor of seeing the teeny village where she was born, and meeting her side of the family. It was so special. Since then, my mom and dad have taken us 3 kids back and we got to visit with our cousins who now speak a bit of English.
From there, my mom and I traveled together to Turkey, Greenland, Iceland, Spain and France. Then I met Brett and we travel great together, which incidentally was my number one test when I was single and dating. We have been to Banff and lots of beautiful parts of Canada. Costa Rica, Equador, the Galapagos Islands, camped in the Amazon Rain forest, went to Baha Mexico and saw the Blue Whale up close in a small boat so as to not disturb them. On that trip we also were inches away from schools of dolphin and manorays. The gray whales even let us pet their babies. I actually got to pet 2 baby gray whales and look right into their eyes. They were so unafraid of us. I went to a place that totally respects the privacy and life of the mammals in the ocean. It was sad to see a big cruise boat go by and horrify the whales who are actually quite shy, especially the Blue Whale, which is the largest in the world. The Humpback Whales got so used to us they actually performed tricks. We had them surrounding our boat doing flips, and rolling over right next to the boat. They were playing and having so much fun……….and you gotta know we were thrilled. There were 8 of them doing different tricks……..all of their own doing, while we just sat there in this tiny boat.
Brett has also been my traveling companion to Austria, the Czech Republic , Budapest, my father's homeland, Scotland, parts of China and Kenya, Africa. My friend Donna and I went to Egypt and that was a lot of fun too.
Brett is very busy starting up an internet business and he doesn’t want to deny me of traveling, so I’ll be going to Honduras with a woman I met in Africa. She actually lives in W. Va and is a veterinarian.
Visit me on MySpace to see some great animal photos from Kenya...they are up close and beautiful and almost every animal had a baby this time of year. It was the migration time from Tanzania to Kenya. They eat all the grass down to nothing in one area, and then travel a great distance and have to cross a dangerous river to get to food to survive in another country. Many many die in the river crossing to the other side.
SOME THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW. . .
As many of you know, I have been clean and sober since 1990, so to me, my life really began when that happened. With this disease, life is pretty chaotic to say the least. I got clean and was blessed to get this show at 99.5 WYCD. So when I say I grew up here, in many ways I have, and I’m sure you have all grown and changed in all those years too. I had no money when I got this job, so having a steady paycheck in itself is life changing. To this day, being able to put gas in my car is a “thank you God” moment.
Something so fun and another one of my passions is being a Wedding DJ on Saturday nights. Celebrating love and dancing to all kinds of music makes for a fantastic night.
I’m also blogging at the end of this bio…..anything and everything. So if you have a question or something to share or need help with, please put it down. Also, I’ll be starting some new blogs in the very near future. I never forget my camera on vacations, but seem to everywhere else I go. So I need to remember to grab it so I can also contribute to our new blog site as well.
