More ways to Volunteer for the Goodfellows Program
|
For 91 years, the Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit (Detroit Goodfellows) has helped Detroit area children in need, carrying out our mission, “No Kiddie Without a Christmas.” This Christmas, we’ll send 36,000 gift boxes to needy Detroit area kids, containing clothes, books, toys, games, and dolls for girls.
We need volunteers like you to work with other Goodfellow members for such projects as:
• Dressing dolls (Now – September 9) – We’ll send you an unclothed doll with suggestions on where to purchase clothes. And yes, many men dress dolls for us!
• Packaging toothbrushes and toothpaste for gift boxes in our Detroit warehouse (August 21 – September 3)
• Working at the Goodfellow information table during federal workers’ payroll deduction campaign drives (various dates in September)
• Boxing dolls in our warehouse (October 15 – 30, 9am – 5pm)
• Helping to set up the Goodfellow doll display in Compuware’s Detroit headquarters (1st week of November)
• Sorting packages in our Detroit warehouse (November 13 – 19, November 29 – December 3)
• Distributing Goodfellow boxes to families from Detroit Police precincts (December 9 – 23)
Please contact Nikki Grandberry with any questions at (248) 269-4356 or ngrandberry@smz.com.
Thank you for your time and for what I hope will be your participation in this worthwhile program. With this small gesture, many children will know they are not forgotten at Christmas.
Sincerely,
Anthony J. Niarhos
President, Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit |

A Proud Father's Memories on Memorial Day "As I sit here in my living room, surrounded by memories of times past, I see photographs of happier times. I see Justin’s Senior Picture…taken in my dark blue suit and tie, (The tie that I had to tie and that he complained about.) “It’s not me” he said putting it on. . .. Those people that we speak about during ceremonies, parades and speeches, are real people, not distant heroes, Our Heroes. They have real families. They deserve this day. Please honor them for their sacrifices, because at my house… everyday is Memorial Day." Please feel free to share your thoughts inside, on this, and what Memorial Day means to you.
