If I could meet anyone. . .

Howdy Friends!

I was just going through my photo albums of the past 14 years I've been with you at 99.5 WYCD and started thinking about who I would want to meet if I could meet anyone in country music. This is me with Tracy Byrd from one of our hoedowns a few years back, which thankfully will be here again in May 2008!  It gives me something to look forward too after a long cold Michigan winter. It's 3 whole days and nights of free great country music and it's one of the best things in the world to go to, plus its FREE.

I've met lots of country stars at our Hoedown, Birthday Bashes, and Christmas Extravaganzas but since I work the night shift (7 - 12 am), haven't seen or met as many as I'd like to that's for sure. Of all the Country Singers we listen to together on 99.5 WYCD who would you want to meet more than anybody? Or, if you have already met your favorite singer or group, I'd love to hear about it.

For me, it would be someone I hear on our Sunday Morning Classics Show with Mike Williams...and that is Willie Nelson. If you want to know why, please call me or just ask below in my new blog.  I'd LOVE to know who you would want to meet more than anybody in country music if you could.

Tell me who and tell me why!
Who would you love to meet more than anyone?

Tough question
Everyone who knows me, knows I am a huge Toby Keith fan, so I would have to say Toby. He's funny, he's sensitive, and he's a great actor! Of course, my first choice would have been Karen Carpenter (even though she wasn't country), but sadly, that won't happen in this life. Willie is a good choice too - so tell us why? Thanks for sharing! Nanci

yeah, Toby is very cool!
.. and even though it was never "cool" to like the Carpenters in my school days, between you and me, I was a HUGE closet Carpenters fan. I played their albums upstairs in my bedroom all by myself over and over and over again. I'd like to know why Karen? As far as Willie, he is such a brilliant song writer and singer and seen so much in his life. I'd love to sit around a campfire with him and just listen to his stories about his friends Waylon, Johnny, Kris, George Jones, Conway & lots of the "oldtimers," and his life from the beginning to now. His love- life I'd love to hear who certain songs he wrote were about and what happened. Ya know, the real life stuff I just love listening to people share about their lives and Willie has sure had a fascinating one. I started playing country music when it was still on albums and 45's and grew to love the old country deep in my bones. Hank Sr. is one of my most played CD's. Yodeling with him is so much fun!! Willie, like your Toby, is a good actor too!! Thank you Nanci for starting out my new blog. I hope to hear from lots of you. I want to add if I could meet someone we play right now on every daypart of 99.5 it would be Garth Brooks. YOUR TURN!! ;-) love Jyl

My dad would join you. . .
My 75 year old father loves Willie and Waylon and Johnny Cash - that's all I listened to growing up. (Aside from my mother's addiction to Johnny Mathis and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass) - I have quite a varied background in music. Karen had the crispest cleanest contralto voice, that blended so well with Richard's baritone, but her solos were awesome. I could go on. . . but this IS a country station - so do you want me to go on about Toby. . .

Toby
I've gotten to meet a lot of country artists at the Hoedown; Arts, Beats and Eats; Concerts and as one of the Backstage Insider Finalists, but out of all the country stars out there Toby Keith by far is THE ONE I would love to meet that I haven't had the opportunity to yet! He just seems to be such a genuine person! And I love his music, his acting and his label Showdog Nashville! And of course I love all the new bands he's signing! Especially Flynnville Train! Maureen

Not only is her voice breathtaking and just awes me whenever I see her perform live or even on the tv - but she has always managed to keep her family her top priority and seems very down to earth!

my favorite group..
If i could meet someone in the country music industry, that I have come to love day in and day out, it would be Dr Don, Rachel and Grunwald. To me that would be better than meeting a star. They make me smile each and every morning.

Toby Keith
I would want to meet Toby Keith. He does so much for our troops and is a hero of country music. My brother has been in Iraq for a year and he definately has me send him all the Toby CD's.
09/22/2007 9:01AM
Who would I want to meet?
Oh boy! It's hard to pick just one, I have to pick my favorite top three, which are Martina, her music and voice gives me goose bumps, Loretta, this is one lady who had been there and back, and of course, Toby, his music says it all, especially in support of our troops. I have a daughter who served in Afghanistan who came home safely, thank God, and when I hear some of Martina's and Toby's songs I think of my daughter.

I would ABSOLUTELY Love to meet
Miss Dolly Parton, she is my all time Favorite and has been for many years!! We went to Dollywood in July and I was hoping she would be there but she was NOT! However, everyone employee that was associated with Dollywood that met her said she is just like you see her on TV etc. She is genuinely sweet and funny! so someday maybe I hope. Love ya Jyl! George Strait
have Have every album he has ever made. I think he's one of the most humble of all the performers around. He has such a variation in what he records and sings that you really can't help but love him.
09/24/2007 10:49AM
I would love to meet Rascal Flatts
Rascal Flatts' songs are truley inspirational, fun and down to earth. The kind of music that goes straight to my heart. My kids even love them! Finally something we can all listen and relate to.I Love Rascal Flatts!!!!

I would love to meet...
Terri Clark (again) I have been lucky enough to meet her twice, and she is the sweetest woman you could ever encounter. She is real, and down to earth. I have enjoyed her music since her beginning, and look forward to her new beginning, I only wish she received the kudos she really deserves. She has received the fan choice award for the 7th time at the canadian country music awards!!! that is huge, I just wish American Country would acknowledge how great she really is and give her music a chance on radio, allow others to hear her talent and fall in love with her music.

My DREAM is to meet George Striat
I have been a George Strait fan since I was a little girl! Not only do I find him incredibly handsome!!!! But he has been true and solid his whole career. I absolutely love the fact that his shows are so "all him" - not that the flash and show isn't fun but I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for him and his music. It always just seems to come from the heart. I have loved alot of different singers over the years and quite a few of them get "dropped" due to style changes that I just do not care for or their attitudes just get obnoxious! But he has remained my all time favorited for always!
09/24/2007 1:52PM
Its Jyl. My first major
market job was 28 or so years ago. George Strait and I started our careers about the same time on the radio. The first country song I ever played on the radio and boy was I a rookie....was "Unwound" and then "Fool Hearted Memory". He was at WCXI AM, where I started my country music career on the radio. We sat in his trailer for over 2 hours and I knew for sure we were going to get married. He was so NICE and so CUTE and so GREAT of a singer as you know. I was in love....then I found out he'd been married since forever already.....and now I live with one of the greatest moments in my career. Spending time like that with anyone is a gift, even when I meet you. He was starting out so he was more than willing to chat with me and Greg Raab our promotions director at the time in his tour bus. Little did we know he would become the huge success that he is. He was truly a sweet man, and I'm sure he still is. After losing his daughter, we know how much that changes someones life. I just thought I'd share my favorite actual meeting.....and that was my first year in radio. Since then, I've met lots of nice people, but not shared the quality time that I did that day with George Strait. He was in no hurry and we weren't either so it was pure luck. Hey, let's have a great week. I'm in Marine City doing my show prep, coming in early to see TRob, and will talk with you tonight at 7. Big blessings dear friends. We love you. xo's Jyl

... all great I couldn't choose.

a BLOG TOPIC that you think we would live to chat about......please let me know. In the meantime....thank you for sharing and I agree, it is hard to pick just one. Rissi starts at 4pm, but before that it's great mu
